*Disclaimer: There might be some spoilers in this review*

And to kickstart this mini movie reviews series, I would like to start with one of my most recent watches Split by M. Night Shyamalan. Now, a quick summary of the movie; the story is about a young man called Kevin who is diagnosed with having 23 different personalities. Three of his personalities have taken over his body and start coming up with a way to release a 24 identity. In the process of accomplishing their plan, one of the identities kidnaps three girls, do to his behaviour and bad character. Now the girls soon will learn about the mad men who has taken them in, and they’ll try to figure out a way to escape.

From the moment the story begins, you are instantly hooked on with tension and anxiousness.  The plot is made clear very quickly in this movie and you pretty much know how things are gonna go down here on. Two stories are happening at the same time and is quite simple to follow along but this reaches a certain point in the movie where one of the stories is left behind and the focus is placed only in what is currently happening on scene. I don’t have many complains about this movie, just that it would of have been better to show the same amount of importance, and more in detail information about both the back stories of the two main characters.

The most important detail I have trouble with is the credibility towards the end of the film. Throughout the whole whole movie, the stories this characters are living are very real and daily life situations that we can relate to, but it’s that final action scene at the end of the movie when we can see the main character transforming into something inhuman, which takes all realism out the window. It was an unnecessary touch and the movie would of have been just fine without the element of something supernatural.

The ending leaves you with hunger for an answer and some doubts, and aside from the very last scene, it gave the film a nice closing overall. Now, there are a few more small details that didn’t quite cut it for me, but in general this was a great and a bit more of a refreshing story to see at the beginning of the year. Really recommend you to watch it and see for yourself  what it’s all about.
