Google Docs & Collaborative Work
For this assignment, I had to recommend twelve things I enjoy scattered across four categories, and so that is what I’ll do today… Get your notepad or bookmark this post, because there’s some good content waiting for you below!
I. YouTube Channels
- dangelowallace talks about whatever he wants (his words, not mine). His videos are all of very good quality. His content is fairly well researched and fun to watch. Plus, his voice is very soothing to one’s ears and his confidence is contagious (wait… am I still allowed to say that word in 2020?) A rising YouTube star ready to send Shane Dawson running for the hills. Oh, wouldn’t that be flawless work from good ol’ karma?
- Jim Reno is an artist from Spain. Her videos on YouTube have an ethereal aesthetic to them, with soft-spoken audio and light music, pastel colors all around and tremendous talent exposed to a (hopefully) growing audience. I feel like her videos are the perfect spot to cleanse the soul of all worries, a magical paradise that reminds you that it’s the little things in life that are the most beautiful.
- Micarah Tewers is a dorky young woman that loves sewing. She’s got this voice that makes her sound like a Disney Princess (she’s even got a chicken as a pet, so really, what more can we ask for?) Her YouTube channel is filled with a chaotic sense of humor but manages to be completely wholesome. You never know the gold you’re about to find when you click into any of her videos because of how unexpected she tends to be. Bless her.
II. Instagram Accounts
- alicjanai is an artist from Poland. You can find her art on her account, as well as process videos and updates on her life. What I enjoy about her art is the simplistic nature of it (although I’m fully aware of the effort it takes to make her art look so good). Her choices in colors are amazing and her style is easily recognizable. She’s on this list for a reason, and it’s subtlety.
- angelganev is easily recognizable by the lighting and structured texture of his digital paintings. Other than his amazing artwork, he’s a hilarious guy (alright, his sense of humor is a bit too chaotic for some people, but I find it quite refreshing). He often gives artsy tips and roasts willing participants right after on his YouTube channel. If you want something alluring to pop on your Instagram feed once in a while, you know who to follow.
- tatimoons is an artist from Spain. She is the reason I first got interested in digital art (which can be spotted by the glowing tattoos she incorporates into her portraits). Her art has been shared by many due to the modern twist of cartoon characters from popular culture that she usually paints.
III. Books
- The “Harry Potter” series is about an orphaned boy that discovers he’s a wizard and is whisked away to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he learns about magic and how to control it. But he is no ordinary boy (because of course not) and quickly realizes that he is the target of a powerful dark wizard that plans to subjugate both wizards and non-magic folk alike.
This series of seven books has been a very important part of my childhood and will forever remain in a special place in my heart. As a Potterhead, I am an immensely proud Slytherin, which is the best House ever (and you can never convince me otherwise, but that’s for another blog post). If you’re interested in knowing what the flying colors I’m talking about, here’s the Goodreads link for the first book.
- The “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” series is centered around a young boy that finds out he’s a demigod (and his dad is the lord of the seas, how cool is that?) He soon is thrust into a quest to save the world (over and over as the books progress… seriously, this poor kid can’t catch a break). He is joined by friends he makes along the way. These books are filled with humor and references to Greek mythology. You’ll have a good time reading these. Here’s a Goodreads link for the first book.
- The “Throne of Glass” series focuses on a young female assassin as she gambles for her freedom. Old enemies become her new allies, her heritage is discovered and war wreaks havoc upon the fictitious continent of Erilea. I’ll be the first to admit this series is not for everyone, for it’s basically a teenager being captivated by all things glamour. But I feel like the sarcasm (in every page, might I add) makes for a very comical read and that last book made up for a lot of things. The Thirteen for the win! Think “PG-13 Game of Thrones ” but for fabulous girls (and unapologetic kings, we don’t judge in this household). Here’s a Goodreads link for the first book.
IV. Movies & TV Shows
- “His Dark Materials” is a show based on the book series of the same name by Philip Pullman. It’s about a young girl who’s grueling search for her kidnapped best friend leads her to discover secrets that the governing body of her world has been desperate to keep concealed. As of today, it counts with one season of 8 episodes. I love the story and the cast and I just can’t wait for the next season (which already has a trailer, but it’s not spoiler free, so go watch the first season if you’re interested)! Here’s the IMDb link for the show.
- “Legend of the Guardians: the Owls of Ga’Hoole” is an animated movie for the family. In the movie, owlets are kidnapped to force them into submission for a dark owl. The protagonists escape and search for the help of the Guardians. It’s the classic trope of “Good VS Evil” but with dazzling visuals that left me impressed the first time I watched it in 2010. Here’s the IMDb link for the movie.
- The “Lord of the Rings” is a trilogy based on the books by J. R. R. Tolkien. A young Hobbit holds the fate of his world in his hands. He must travel a long distance with his friends to destroy the One Ring, a powerful weapon made by Sauron, a force of pure evil, before the world falls to darkness. I believe this is the best film trilogy of all time, for a lot of the special effects still hold to this day (considering they were filmed back in 1999), the film score is hypnotic and iconic, the visuals show the astounding beauty of New Zealand and the plot is gripping. I might be guilty of having LoTR marathons every week, but you didn’t hear that from me. If you’re interested to read a better summary, head over to this IMDb link.
