  1. How often do you use the dark web?
Anonymous 1: “Regularly. I would say an average of 3-4 times a week I’ll go on to find something specific.”
Anonymous 2: “Used to use it about 1-4 times a month”
Anonymous 3: “I use the Dark Web daily. I am always routing all of my internet traffic through tor whether the activity that I am doing is legal or not.”
  2. What type of activity do you engage on? What do you usually do?
Anonymous 1: “Usually for research. But mostly on things like drugs, human experiments, murders, how to hack something or how to do something.”
Anonymous 2: “Just general browsing of forums but occasionally I’d use the Dream Market”
Anonymous 3: “Usually I use the darknet for fraud, buying drugs and communication.”
  3. Have you bought anything on the dark web? If so, what was it?
Anonymous 1: “I bought a hard drive for 25$ but it never came unfortunately. I’ve just never needed anything that’s exclusive to the dark web.”
Anonymous 2: “Yes, I bought a lot of psychedelic drugs. LSD, mushrooms, peyote, DMT”
Anonymous 3: “Of course I am buying stuff on the darknet every week. I usually purchase sensitive information such as bank details and credit card information, but I do use it to buy drugs. One reason I buy drugs on the darknet is because it is safer and cheaper, when I’m putting something up my nose I want to make sure it is the cleanest possible product that I can get not only for me but for my clients as well.”
  4. What’s the worst/weirdest thing that you’ve encountered while browsing the dark web?
Anonymous 1: “Worst thing would probably be the famous Daisy’s Destruction. Or maybe the skinning alive of a cartel member. Hard to say. There’s not a lot of weird per say, but there is more just “off putting” I found a website full of open security cameras. Some of them being people’s webcams or just security cameras of random places.”
Anonymous 2: “Weirdest thing was a site called Pink Meth. I realized it was probably going to end up with being a CP website or something, so I got off it”
Anonymous 3: “The weirdest most fucked up thing you could see on the dark web is child porn. I’ve clicked on link once by accident in the early days of me using the darknet and it just sickened me that these people existed.”
  5. What are the positive and negative effects of the dark web?
Anonymous 1: “Positives: Anonymity, More freedom, no censorship, access to anything and everything, and no worries about tracking. Negatives: Run the risk of seeing something really really bad, risk of getting scammed, risk of involving yourself in something nefarious, and possibly risk of permanent emotional damage.”
Anonymous 2: “Positives I’d say is mainly the preservation of freedom of speech on internet. Negatives I’d say really rely on the user. Being a moron and buying drugs without being smart about it is just a good way to get caught. In my opinion I think it is good because it shows how illegal things are going to find a around the law. Personally, I think drugs should all be decriminalized as Portugal did. But that statement also comes with the whole child porn like that’s not a good thing, obviously.
Anonymous 3: “There is not a lot of positive effects to using the darknet but there are many positive effects regarding the use of TOR. I am a huge cyber security advocate, I worked for the government for 3 years and the amount of spying and knowledge they can access about you is disgusting. I know that a lot of law firms use TOR to send and receive information anonymously, but people mostly use TOR for the privacy blanket that the software offers.”
  6. Do you regret using the dark web?
Anonymous 1: “Not at all. Have some knowledge of algorithms, cyber-security, and computers + networking and you will be fine. There isn’t a whole lot to be worried about if you’re intelligently paranoid.”
Anonymous 2: “Do I regret IT? No not at all. It’s very overrated. However, the first time I bought things I realized some mistakes. And how I could have easily ruined myself over something stupid. I enhanced my security from then on. The regrets didn’t come from the dark web itself but when people around me found out I utilized it for the amazon of drugs basically they wanted in on the fun. And word spreads fast. So inadvertently I became a drug vendor for a bit which was the opposite of good for myself. It caused so much anxiety and ruined me simply enjoying psychedelic substances by myself.”
    Anonymous 3: “No.”
  7. Is there anything else we should know?
Anonymous 1: Dark web and deep web are different. Please tell more people that.”
Anonymous 2: “The dark web is basically just a bunch of scams. I got scammed logging into my dream market account before and lost a good 200$ worth of orders. However, if you’re smart it’s a very good thing. Brows all sorts of cool Internet forums. If you want cheap easy drugs cool. If you want some whack porn lol there ya go. If you want a hitman, you’re getting scammed more than likely. I’m not about drugs anymore because of the nature of those substances you lose interest rather quickly. But what I gained off doing them was awesome. I no longer suffer from depression for one. I could go on but that’s not the point.”
Anonymous 3: “Don’t do drugs and stay in school.”
