What is IoT?

  • The Internet of Things, “IoT”, has been trending during these past years. However, this is not a new thing. During the early 2000s, around the late 1999s, Kevin Ashton was performing the preliminary work of this notion. While the years have passed, society has changed, as well, as the concept of IoT. The Internet of Things is the network that approaches and connects the Internet, in diverse forms, with humanity’s daily and ongoing lifestyle. In other words, different physical objects and devices are interconnected to the internet, analyzing, collecting and sharing data.
  • The Internet of Things can be seen in various mainstream projects and even in smart applications. For instance, Samsung Electronics released a smart refrigerator called “Family Hub”. The project, Family Hub, was introduced in the year 2016. Currently, Family Hub, in 2018, has expanded its smart features and applications. This smart refrigerator has a built-in “tablet” or a digital screen in one of the doors and clearly, it has changed the way people see home electronic devices. This amazing refrigerator helps “consumers manage food, with the View Inside app that enables users to see inside the fridge from anywhere.”Additionally, it has a Meal Planner that personalizes and helps with the process of the food management. Not only does Family Hub, gives nutritional knowledge, it also provides different types of entertainment. “Spotify” and “Pandora” are one of the few applications that can be used for music purposes.
  • Another example of Iot, is the app, “My Water”. This application helps you calculate how much water you need to drink in order to be healthy.

  • “An Introduction to the Internet of Things (IoT)” by the Lopez Research explains the definition of IoT and it’s origin. It also defines the connection and how it has reached extraordinary lengths with both living and nonliving things. Furthermore, it explains the monitoring of sensors for data collection.  Aside from the impacts that IoT has with the lives of people, it has an impact every kind of business. This book covers various aspect of IoT.

  • “Introduction to the Internet of Things” by Kramp, Lange and Kranenburg, grasps the attention of it’s reader by providing an extent infromation of the origin and growth of the IoT. It explains the concept and gives example of it’s influences. Morever, presents how the market is being affected and impacted. In addition, how IoT changes the visualization of the connection with the products and the market.

  • “The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the use of intelligently connected devices and systems to leverage data gathered by embedded sensors and actuators in machines and other physical objects.” IoT is all about connecting and enhancing the human experience with the power of tecnology. In the book, “Understanding the Internet of Things (IoT)”, explains and embodies these concepts.
