Who doesn’t love music? Putting your headphones in your ears and being transported into a musical wonderland. Having such pleasant sounds circling inside your head as you walk around your daily life. Music is not just melodies and verses, but also passion or emotion. A song can influence the you think, feel and view the world. And now a days, with the advance in informatics in this art form, that journey is so much easier to go one. From apps  to share and listen to music like iTunes, Soundcloud and Spotify and editing programs like Garageband and Logic Pro, making music isn’t only for trained professionals anymore.

For my informatics final project, we were divided into groups to do an investigation of “The Informatics in…” and my group chose music.

Part of the deal was that we had to interview professionals in the field. I had the opportunity to interview 5 really cool people who live and breathe music. Sadly, due to work and schedule issues, none of these interviews were done in person, which really bummed me out. The people I interviewed were Josué Deprat Rojas, Edgardo “Pichie” Rivera, Lisa Miranda a.k.a. Liza Lynnette and
Hernán Miranda Landrau. I could tell that asking them questions about how they edit and the kind of work they did really brightened up their day and made them excited to keep created knowing that there are so many young people interested in this media art form.

But honestly, this project was hard. At times, I was doing everything myself and it was a lot of work. At first my dumb self didn’t even know what informatics in music was. Little did I know that I had been using it all along.

Personally, I like to dabble into music creative and editing myself even though I can’t seem to play an instrument to save my life so I usually use Garageband loops and another songs to mix up and play around with, especially when I need background noise for my videos. (I’m a self-taught, freelance videographer if you didn’t know.) But honestly, I didn’t know how many other programs, softwares and hardware existed to make music, as ignorant as that sounds.

So, here are a couple of videos of the artists work. Check them out, if you got a moment,  because they are pretty good.

So I hope this motivates you guys to see the new and exciting possibilities in the informatics of music. It’s not all Beyoncé and Coldplay ya know.

Stay weird.
