As many of you know the company Google was in the development of modular phones known as Project Ara. This platform would include a structural frame with modular smartphone that the owner can choose, such things as a screen, a keyboard or an extra battery. This would allow users to switch modules that don’t work or upgrade individual modules as in emerging innovations, providing longer life cycles and reducing pollution caused by electronic waste.

Modular smartphones have generated great enthusiasm in the technology community for its potential to extend the life of a device and reduce electronic waste. However, the devices are difficult to bring to the market because their interchangeable parts makes them very bulky and expensive to produce, says analyst Bob O’Donnell, of TECHnalysis Research. Although Google has discontinued this project, it will work with its partners to bring the technology of Project Ara to the market, for example through licensing agreements.

In my opinion I am disappointed that Google has canceled this project, but we can’t lose faith, since Google inform us that they will allow other partners to continue working with this interesting project.
