My Beautiful Woman (2014): Short Film

Hello guys! So today I wanted to share with a very touching short film made in Thailand. It is part of a 3 part series called ”My Beautiful Woman’‘ for a campaign by Wacoal/Beauty Inside, which is a lingerie company, but never showed any skin in any of the shorts featured in the series but rather focused on the beauty within their female protagonists facing the obstacles life had placed for them. Unfortunately the website for the campaign isn’t available anymore, I followed the provided link many times and the domain is available for anyone to take the name. I chose this short, because it is the one that everyone knows and the one that I think left a high level of impact in the viewer. The first time I saw it my eyes watered terribly and I vowed to myself that if I had a child I wanted to be the same kind of mother as the protagonist.

The short is narrated by Pun (?) a man who is close friends with the protagonist Jane and is also Jane’s daughter June’s art instructor. Jane arrives at an assembly and sits on stage along with the rest of the mothers while some of them don’t give her a nice look. Pun talks about how Jane was a senior student who rarely socialized with anyone in her class, when the bell rang she would hurry out of her school to pick up her daughter June from her pre-school. Also it is mentioned that people always talked about Jane behind her back, about who June’s father was. One day Jane comes across Pun to give Jane drawing lessons and he agrees. The three of them become very close, we see how Jane juggles between being a student and being a mother, and Pun talks about how Jane is just an ordinary woman but the smile that she has for June makes him believe she is the most beautiful woman. While at the daycare Pun tells Jane that people are talking behind her back about who June’s father is, but she says she rather have people talk about her than about June. While at the assembly a line of kids walk towards their mothers onstage holding some flowers. We then see a flashback of Jane walking on the street, she goes to throw something away when she notices something inside a luggage back. When she opens it she finds a baby inside and she begins to cry. So we learn that Jane is not June’s real mother and that since that day she has been taking care of her, giving her all the love and support she can give. June and Jane hug, June looks at Jane telling her ”I love you mom” and then they walk home together holding hands and wearing their uniforms.

This was a very adorable video, I wish a lot of mother’s were like this with their kids. I mean I see a lot of young mothers that just have kids for the hell of it and don’t really try to take care of them but rather ignore them or give them to someone else to take care of them. Sometimes I’ve seen some take out their anger on their kids, it’s not the kid’s fault if you had a bad day and he/she is not a punching bag. Yet I also know that there are some young mothers who do try their hardest to give their kids a good life, who sacrifice their dreams for their kids because they love them so much. Kids aren’t easy but you need to accept them, try to give them your time cause one day they won’t want to be with you and if you treated them badly they won’t want to remember you at all. Balance everything out for you both. The love you give to your child makes you a beautiful woman inside. Also don’t listen to what others say about you, only you know yourself and the things you’ve done. Just keep going forward with your head held high always.

Like someone said, it’s good that Pun narrated the story because it is hard for a single woman with a child to earn respect since some men may see her as a whore or see June like an annoyance, but he respected them both regardless. I like how they showed the many ways that Jane and June bonded and did things together, showing Jane’s good parenting.

The video currently has 6,250,637 views on YouTube and it is the most popular from the ”My Beautiful Woman” series, but please watch the other ones because they also show the beauty inside of their leads.
