Throughout my 17 years of living, never have I thought that I will encounter seeing manatees. On March 13, 2014, I went to The Center of Conservation of Manatees in Puerto Rico just to do my simple task of Community Service thinking it wouldn’t be a big deal, but I was surely wrong. It was one of the most amazing things I’ve experienced. I bonded with my boyfriend and another classmate and so we learned how to feed the manatees, what they eat, learned how to tell which manatee is a male or female, what to do to keep them strong and healthy, etc. I loved my experience helping the manatees and the people in charge of them as well. It was only one day that I was helping and that’s all it took for me to be so motivated to come back next time. It also warms my heart to know that there are people out there that care for these mammals. They are becoming extinct and that’s so sad but if the people keep up the great work they’re doing, hopefully there will be more manatees out in the sea like old times. I really loved this experience and soon I’ll be back to do it all over again.
