What comes to mind when someone mentions the word film? A movie? A roll of film? Something to protect an item? Well, to me it means art; the art of films. It gives a filmmaker the chance to show the audience what’s inside their minds and their creativity. A film lets them show us a story that they want to tell. That is why I completely support writer’s and director’s visions for the movies they intend to make. Lately in the world of filmmaking, there have been some behind the scenes trouble with directors’ intended version of their films, which are being sabotaged by big studio producers. What these producers don’t understand, is that a director’s voice should be heard. Their stories must be told. But their egos, hunger for power and money blinds them. With these obsessions, they are destroying a piece of art; something that the director has been working on for a long time.

Filmmaking is a difficult and long process. It may look just like pure entertainment or just a movie, but it is more than that. Everyone in the cast and crew are doing their best to make this possible. Although I’m not saying that the director should be given complete control of the project, they must have some control over it. Filmmaking is a way of life, a passion, a hobby, a job, a dream and creators shouldn’t be stripped of that. And what I love about films is how creative they are. They all tell a different story. Lately the industry has had more diversity and open to new ideas, and I really appreciate that they are being more inclusive. The best way to appreciate a director’s or writer’s vision, is with independent movies. These are some of the most impressive films that I have experienced. The artists have such a way with telling stories.

Whether you want to see a film or not is totally up to you. Everyone will have opinions about it, positive or negative, but you should only criticize it when you have seen it. I was like this once; I criticized films without seeing them, saying that they would be complete failures. But when I started my bachelor’s degree on digital production, my views an opinions quickly changed. I understood what was so important about films, about telling a story and doing what you love. So next time you go see a movie and have some negative thoughts on your mind, think of all the people that worked behind the scenes to make this the best experience a moviegoer could have.
