Hello, everyone. I would like to start of by saying welcome and I hope all of you are safe and well during this difficult times. Today I wanna share with all of you some information that me and my colleagues found. We were sent to look up information about this technology and to see its history, apps that use this technology and more. The technology were going to talk about today is Facial Recognition. Lets get started.

When did Facial Recognition begin?

Facial Recognition was created in the 1960s. Creator and one of the founders of this technology is known to be Woodrow Wilson Bledsoe. He was a well known computer scientist, mathematician and teacher. In the 1970s this technology was made more adaptable and accurate by using 21 facial markers. Then Eigenface was developed.

Eigenface it was created by using linera algebra to be able to help advance facial recognition. It was developed by Sirovich and Kirby in the 1987 and Eigenface was introduced in the 1988. In the 1991 computer scientist had been tying to develop this technology more with the help of images. This development was done by two scientist known as Alex Pentland and Matthew Turk. They were able to prove that with the help of collected images in the database could help set the basic features of facial recognition.

Between 1993 and 2000s DARPA ( Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) released the FERET program. This program started in the 1993 by Dr. P. Jonathon Phillips. The FERET ( also known as Facial Recognition Technology) was designed to develop instant and automatic face recognition capabilities. These program was created to help assist security and to encourage to develop this type of technology. In the year 2002, facial recognition was applied in critical technology testing by law enforcement officials.

Now in the present day facial recognition is basically everywhere. In 2010 Facebook started to use facial recognition to help detect people that where featured in photos. In 2011, came a program called FaceFirst created to help disminish the illegal activity at Panama’s Tocumen airport. In 2014, Law enforcement adopted mobile face recognition to help identify people of interest. Till now like I mentioned before facial recognition is used everywhere, on Facebook, Snapchat and even to unlock our own phones and the fact that these technology is till being developed and advancing is extraordinary.

What is Facial Recognition?

But the important question is, What is Facial Recognition?. As said in it’s own name, facial recognition is a way to help recognizing a persons face through technology. This technology uses biometrics to help map facial features. The biometric can map the features from a photo and even a video. This can be used to verify a persons identity, it also can be used as a surveillance and for marketing strategies.

Programs and Apps:

– FaceFirst: Its a popular program used by people in law enforcement and in the military. What it does is take a picture from a person an instantly with the picture it relates it with a base of data from the person the program is relating it too.

– BLIPPAR: Is an app that counts with a base of data with the capacity of recognising a variety of things such as animals, people, plants and more.

– Oasis face: This app is available in Mac OSX, iOS, Windows and Android. It allows users to block and unlock their devices with facial recognition

– Applock face: This app lets Android users have the ability to block and unlock apps, archives and documents with just using facial recognition and your voice. It garantes that only you be able to accesses your personal information, networks, and make changes on your phone.

– Luxand: This program offers an SDK of facial recognition and API detection. This helps 3D designs and illustrations.

-BIOID: Is a facial recognition mobile app that acts as an authenticator. This app eliminates the necessity of a password and instead uses biometric data to verify your identity.

– VASCO: It was created to help protect devices against malware attacks. It prevents this attacks by using biometric authentication like, facial recognition and digital finger print.

– Moments: This feature created by Facebook helps create albums of shared photos with friends and family. It helps send pictures faster and recuperate them. It also presents facial recognition to help identify the people that are in the picture.
