2019 was a great year for films, in my opinion one of the best films of the year was Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit. Some people felt this film was an inappropriate satirical take on a dark period in history. Jojo Rabbit is set during World War II and tells the story of Jojo, a young German boy who is part of the Hitler Youth, discovering his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. An important detail of the story is that Jojo’s imaginary friend is Adolf Hitler. I believe this is one of the most unique films I’ve seen in a long time. Personally, I thought the film was perfectly cast. The cast includes Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell and Taika Waititi, who also wrote the screenplay and directed the film. Like most films, some people enjoyed it very much and some people disliked it. I felt this film was a terrific satire and it also shows you how ridiculous Hitler’s beliefs were. It also tells a story about how we should put prejudice aside and learn to judge people based on their character and not on their beliefs or their nationality.
