Since I was a little girl I loved to read. Stories were my everything, I would spend hours with a book in hand. Instead of playing with dolls or my toy horses like a regular kid, you would find me curled up in a corner with a good book. My teachers loved me, I was so calmed and well read. It was too good to be true, way too good, too good for it to be true. Because it isn’t true. Oh how I wish to have been in love with books since I was child.

Sorry! ? But sadly I hated to read anything.

To read my mom would try to bribe me with money and still I wouldn’t pick up the books she’d buy for me. I don’t know why but every time I tried I would fall asleep. I was a child full of energy and the thought of holding a book for hours was very exhausting. The only person at the time that would read for fun was my older sister, and you know how  children imitate someone in the family, well she was my role model but I still wouldn’t pick the same habit.

I had a lot of books full of adventures, strong women and horses. Why horses? you may ask. It’s my favorite animal and almost all of the books had pictures in them, so instead of reading it was more of admiring the images of those majestic animals.

But the other books, the ones that didn’t have pictures, would get hidden in my closet. Out of sight, out of mind.

Okay, so lets keep in mind that my favorite animal is the horse. In my school every year they would always make a book fair in which you could either buy the books that where there or order them from the catalog they had. I would always look for the ones that had horses in the covers, because in my mind if the book talked about horses the animal that I loved, I would somehow love to read. Almost all of the books I got where of horses, all in Spanish except War Horse. The first book I read. The motivation was, that the movie was coming out soon and, since I was a horse freak, I wanted to read the book before seeing the movie, and I did. I loved it. The book is amazing the story is so captivating and the way its written is lovely.

During that year I learned two things:

  1. I prefer to read in English
  2. Horses can’t make you love a story, only the way its written and the story can make you love a book.

So I was in the zone, I read a book, my mom didn’t even tried to bribe me and sadly I didn’t get any money. What now? My mom was happy and my sister started to tell me about other books with magic, werewolf, vampire and elves, etc, and I was captivated.  She showed The Dark Divine and I fell in love with the book. I ended up reading the whole series before my sister. That’s how I became obsessed with reading and since then I haven’t stopped. Now my sister and I share and discuss books and my mom gets mad at me for having to many books. Be careful what you wish for.
