Hello Cruel World… As I sit here admiring the cool, beautiful, cloudy day, my mind starts to wonder as the gentle breeze brushes against my face. What happened to the world? What’s next for all of us? I cannot seem to find answers to these questions. As I tuck my hair behind my right ear, I look up at the calm portrait of greenery painted around me and the gentle raindrops falling across my face. To think the tornado of emotions and negativity that was injected into the world, not just in the United States and Puerto Rico. Let’s analyze it a bit, shall we?

If you are completely lost, I’m talking about the presidential elections from the United States of America and the local general elections in Puerto Rico both taken place this past November 8th of this year, 2016. ???????? ???????? ?

A little back story, elections in Puerto Rico are always a hot mess! Most people treat it as an excuse to go to the beach and drink beer.

My mind’s on money. My money’s on beer. – Beer Money ????????

Also, elections in this little island are the cause for a super baby crap load of gossip and controversy because people who have family members and friends with different political views start a war or words and hate, making Thanksgiving very awkward. #ThatsWhyPeopleDrink

There are two main political parties in Puerto Rico. The Partido Nuevo Progresista (PNP) is in favor of the island becoming a state of the USA. The other is the Partido Popular democrático (PPD), which is the oldest party in the island, who are in favor of the Estado Libre Asociado (ELA). Altough in English it is translated as the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the island is not a state, it is a territory of the United States and the ELA is a special status, created by Congress, that grants Puerto Rico some benefits similar to the ones enjoyed by states. It also grants the island autonomy in some areas. For example, Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens by birth but, cannot vote for President or have representatives in Congress. There are a few other minor parties like El Partido Independista that is in favor of the island becoming a completely independent nation, El Partido Puertorriqueño de los Trabajadores (PPT) that is in favor of the workers and their rights and one other party, who’s name escapes me. The history here have been either the PNP wins or the Populares (or PPD) win. So basically the purely Puerto Rican political history (not enclosing when it was under the umbrella of Spain) has always been a war between the two parties. If one doesn’t win it’s the other but sadly the other parties and independent candidates that run have never stood much of a chance. But all that is starting to change.

In these past elections there were two candidates who ran by themselves , not affiliated to any party, for governor and one man, named José Vargas Vidot who ran on his own for senate and actually won! A first in Puerto Rican history. Also a first is that the independent candidates did extremely well and took a very good chunk of the vote.  The thing is that around here people usually vote by colors or parties.

  • PNP – Blue/Azul ????
  • PPD or Popular – Red/Rojo ????
  • PIP – Green/Verde ??

So for a person not affiliated to any of those parties to win is a big deal.

But the real gossip or chisme around here is that about two years ago Puerto Rico (the government) announced that it had a massive debt ???? that the government could not pay so there were gonna be a lot of economical adjustments, which freaking sucks because the economy had been bad here for years and it’s almost impossible to find work. #YayCapitalism ????  So the governor who announced that debt is named Alejandro García Padilla who is a part of the PPD, and the dude is basically a talking meme. I mean, the guy means well but isn’t too gifted in the head if you know what I mean. So the real people governing were his associates that are total wads! So add that to all the financial scandals and lies they say in the media and you got one fed up population. So the guy, who actually worked for this administration, who was the candidate for governor for the Populares was named David Bernier. If you need a laugh, YouTube this guy. He looks like a glorified Simpsons character and sounds like John Laurinaitis/Johnny Ace, aka the new Mr. Momma Bella  ????  #PeoplePower  ????  Then the dude was taking against his own party to try to save his butt. He doesn’t have much of a backbone if you ask me.

On the other hand, the PNP’s candidate for governor was a man name Ricardo “Ricky” Roselló, who is the son of a former governor named Pedro Roselló and this guy has never worked in politics a day in his life. He has a PH.D. in something but is perceived as a total daddy’s boy bone head. Great marketing ????  But since a lot of people were so angry at the populares, Ricky ended up winning, so some people were celebrating and other cursing the ground he walks on.

Now the United States. ???????? ???????? ????????

I remember nervously watching CNN and refreshing my Twitter feed hoping that what I was seeing was not going to happen. Analyzing the build up to the elections, I was seeing all the crap coming out of Trump’s mouth and how badly they were painting Hilary to be. But nothing could have prepared me for reality. I honestly believed she would overcome this and become the first female president of the United States. Is she a saint? Not really. However she genuinely seemed to care and wanted to make America a better place. Welcoming people from all walks of life, unlike Trump who all he did was promote hate, discrimination, racism and fear. I was so anxious watching the polls that I literally couldn’t concentrate on anything else; all I could focus on was the fear and disbelief in my heart because even though Puerto Ricans have U.S. citizenship, we are still Hispanics. So after hours and hours of torturing myself, I turned off my laptop at 3 am and went to sleep.

In the morning, I woke up. The sun was shining, I got all cozy and finished reading “Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper” by Robert Bloch. But alas, when I opened my bedroom door to go to the bathroom, there was my mother with the news. “We have an orange president.” And thus began the day of mourning the United States as we all knew it…

Switching gears a little bit, no one can deny that Social Media played a HUGE role in these elections. Not only were they a source for news updates and play by play information but they influenced many voters mentalities. For examples, in the parodies of the candidates for government painted Roselló as a prepubescent daddy’s boy who only spoke nonsense to the point that it became a huge prejudice against him.

What annoyed me is that a lot of first time voters started to believe that he actually was like that and judged him based on a joke and not his platform. Look, I ain’t defending the guy. I don’t belong to any political party and don’t favor one person over any other. I just find it irritating that one would make such an important decision based on a joke. Also I found that social media became the source for a lot of negativity. People attacking each other because of different views and poor minority groups expressing their fear for the change in administration in the case of the United States.

So yeah, social media was more important and influential than ever before. It helped spread news, gossip and personal opinions like wildfire. So since this is still a pro wrestling blog, I am going to show y’all some tweets from different superstars and wrestlers so you can see their point of view and reactions of what happened.

If you are reading this blog post and are scared to death about what is going to happen to you, whether you are Hispanic, African-American, Asian, apart of the ????  LGBT community or any other minority group or you just are a person with a big heart,????  who is scared for our world, I just want to motivate you to promote love??, unity and positivity ???? . Don’t give up. No matter what any administration throws at us, whether the president is a giant douche or a turd sandwich, goodness will always prevail. So please block the hate and be a light in these dark times. ????

Stay Weird. *Virtual hugs* ????
