For me, trailer nowadays spoil the entire film they are marketing. So I tend to stay away from them as much as possible. But, there are a few exceptions here and there and, few weeks ago, I had heard about a new film being marketed by Warner Bros. this past month. The best thing that I heard about these claims is that Christopher Nolan is appearantly the director, writer and co-producer of this film. Being a fan of Nolan and knowing the history of him not spoiling films in trailers. So I went to log on onto YouTube and went to see said trailer on the Warner Bros. YouTube page.

I was amazed and dazzled by the fact that this is an upcoming WW2 film titled Dunkirk. For those who don’t know, here is a short summary about the Battle and Evacuation of Dunkirk. After Nazi Germany invaded Poland in 1939, it aimed towards both East and West. In the west of them, they had planned for an Invasion of France and the Low Countries that would take place from May to June of 1940. Which resulted in a swift victory on behalf of the Third Reich. Prior to the Invasion, Great Britain had sent its British Expeditionary Force to France and the Netherlands in accord to the promise of defending Poland in case of German invasion. After Poland was occupied, Britain and France had declared war on Germany and the rest of the Polish Army was stationed in France. As a result, the British decided to assist them, the French army, The Belgian Army and the Army of the Netherlands. By the 26th of May, 1940, they were overwhelmed by the German War Machine and many of the 300,000 to 400,000 allied soldiers (mostly British) headed towards to the coastal city of Dunkirk, in Northwest France as Winston Churchill ordered an immediate evacuation of all forces trying to escape the tyranny of the Third Reich. The outcome was tens of thousands of them taken prisoner, thousands of them dead and/or buried on the beach and a successful evacuation of atleast 300,000 allied soldiers. This would later lead to the aerial Battle of Britain (July of 1940 – October of 1940).

I didn’t spoil anything, it’s already recorded in history. But, the story is about survival. I’ll wonder how the characters, that Papa Nolan had written for the audience to see, will deal with it. We know what happens afterwards, as it is recorded in history. But, we’ll also wonder how the characters will survive the ordeal of this historical occurrence. I think that’ll be the main focus of the film. The trailer did a wonderful job of not revealing much information. The whole movie is being filmed with IMAX 65mm cameras. Scenes featured in the trailer look beautiful and feature outstanding cinematography. It conviced me to highly consider watching this film. Alas, I have to wait till July of 2017 for its release. Still, I will keep on looking forward to seeing Nolan’s take on the historical Battle of Dunkirk.
