DIY: Geometric Paper Backdrop

Today we have a fun geometric paper backdrop from our DIY contributors, Going Lovely! This backdrop is perfect for photobooths, a dessert table, your ceremony backdrop – or whatever else you can dream up! It is made up of 3 sizes of shapes – the hardest part is deciding what colors to use! 🙂

What You’ll Need:
~ Hot glue gun + glue sticks
~ Scissors
~ Canvas drop cloth
~ 120 sheets of 8.5? x 11” card stock in the colors of your choice. (We got ours at Michaels)

We’ll be making three different sizes of the geometric shapes – small, medium and large. Let’s start by making the large one…

Large Size Geometric Shape
Step 1: Fold the left corner of the card stock diagonally so that it lines up with the right side of the card stock.
Step 2: Trim off the bottom section of the card stock so that you are left with only a folder triangle.
Step 3: Trim off an inch on the right side of the folded triangle
Step 4: Open up the triangle and fold down an inch on both sides of the trimmed corner portion of the card stock
Step 5: Turn the card stock over and re-crease the card stock diagonally so that you are left with a 3-d geometric shape

Medium Size Geometric Shape
Step 1: Fold the card stock in half
Step 2: Open up the card stock and cut the card stock in half along the crease
Step 3: Fold the left corner of the card stock diagonally so that it lines up with the right side of the card stock.
Repeat the steps 2 through 5 from making the large geometric shape.

Small Size Geometric Shape
Step 1: Fold the card stock in half
Step 2: Open up the card stock and cut the card stock in half along the crease
Step 3: Fold the half-sheet of card stock in half
Step 4: Open up the card stock and cut it in half again. Repeat steps 1 through 5 from making the large geometric shape.

Instalation

Hot glue the folded sides on the bottom of the geometric shapes to the canvas drop cloth. We found that the composition looked best when we varied the direction and sizes of the geometric shapes!

Once the geometric shapes are all glued down, you’re ready to hang it up. Snap fun pictures in front of it and enjoy!
