Dating on the App
Hey guys, so I’m going to be doing something different today. Since this blog was created due to an informatics class and the semester is ending I have to add a bit more technology, informatics and that sort of topics on here for a bit. Since I’m not an expert in technology, I will go with something very universal that everyone else in the world understands: Dating apps.
Ah yes, we’ve all been there. Were too busy to go out or were too shy to say ”Hello” to people we find attractive in the real world. Or were simply rejects, the friend zoned, the cute friend waiting on the sidelines hoping someone will notice us. So we resort to dating apps, such as: Tinder, OkCupid, POF, Badoo. Sometimes even non-dating apps like: Tumblr and Whisper. I decided to share my wisdom with you, since I use those apps or know people that have shared their experience with them. If you found the love of your life through them good for you, send me the invite to your wedding or at least send me cake. No really, I’m happy for you. For me that hasn’t been the case, but who cares? I’m awesome. Here we go:

Tinder: I found this app through a Buzzed video and decided to try it out. It has a very simple quick match design, means you get pictures of people and you can slide them to either side to choose whether you like them or not. It’s pretty simple to use. Downsides to this would be: sometimes you run out of people and then have to wait a while before you can choose anymore, you can’t talk to anyone you have liked unless you’ve matched somehow, sometimes you match but the other person never bothers to even say hi to you, and in a way it can be a bit of a superficial app if you focus too much on a person’s looks rather than what their interests are and so on.

OKCupid: it’s not that great, you rarely get any new people to talk to. But you entertain yourself by answering random questions about yourself and there’s maybe one or two people you can talk to for a while. Really wouldn’t use it again for the lack of activity.
POF: Sorta similar to OKCupid, just filled with a lot more older people who seemed pretty desperate and had tacky pictures. I did go out with someone I met on here like 2 times, and were still very good friends. So it wasn’t all bad, but still boring most of the time.

Badoo: I kind of like this one because its pretty active, there’s a lot of people online and a lot of people to talk to. Sad thing is sometimes people tend to like you but never speak to you (like on Tinder), sometimes they don’t put a lot about themselves in their profiles so you don’t know whether to talk to them or not. Its like Tinder except it lets you talk to people whenever you feel like it (if they appear on the people nearby option, that is)

Tumblr: aka paradise. I think this is one of the best places you can meet people, not just for romantic purposes but also for great friendships for those moments you feel alone and need someone to talk to. Sometimes there’s blogs for dating so that’s interesting as well. Besides the way they style their blond what they post tells a lot about them in a more interesting way than other site.
Whisper: this app is a strange character, I just use it to express myself without people knowing it was me or just reading everyone else’s stories is truly fun. You meet interesting people that give good advice or you meet a bunch of creepy people that just want to hook up and want nudes… which is stupid when you’re in an anonymous app. But I included it here, just to give people a brief warning of the things that may happen when people talk to you.
*BONUS*
Zoosk: DONT. Downloading it is free, but a lot of the good options that normally come with the app (like messaging or seeing if someone read your message) will cost you. AGAIN, DONT.
Some of these apps are fun, but it’s better to meet someone in real life. Sometimes when you can’t have that physical contact with the person you like, things get a little boring and the initial flame that existed just banishes. But if you do like someone and not mind the distance, then that’s fine as well and very admirable because not many can handle that.
If you like someone in real life, start talking to them, get to know them, maybe hang out with them sometime. The worst thing that can happen is if they say no, and at least you can tell yourself that you tried. Sometimes loneliness gets the best of us, especially when we look around and it seems as if though everyone is in pairs or couples. Love is great, but it’s not all that great like in the movies because nothing really lasts forever unfortunately. You just need to make the best of it and be glad it happened. Don’t make romance the center of your life, do other things too, things you love or new things you want to do. Eventually when and where you least expect it is where it happens, surprises are better than plans. Don’t worry I’m in your same situation but were still young and alive so we still have a big chance. Good luck!
Hope you enjoyed this small review, bye guys!
